Environmental Horticulture Business

Plant Science, a pivotal discipline at the convergence of biology, agriculture, and environmental science, is dedicated to the study of plants and their vital role in ecosystems and human economies. This field explores a wide array of topics, including plant genetics, physiology, pathology, and ecology, all aimed at enhancing crop production, sustainability, and resilience in the face of global challenges.

From a business standpoint, Plant Science is instrumental in driving innovations that bolster agricultural productivity, ensuring food security, and contributing to the development of sustainable practices. It underpins the global agribusiness sector by informing everything from the breeding of high-yield, disease-resistant crops to the creation of biofuels and pharmaceuticals derived from plants.

Academically, Plant Science is a dynamic and integrative field that combines fundamental research with practical applications. It equips professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to address pressing issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and the increasing demand for food and natural resources. By leveraging advances in biotechnology and ecological research, Plant Science plays a critical role in shaping the future of agriculture, environmental stewardship, and the global economy.

The Environmental Horticulture Business Program is designed for students to complete the lower-division (freshman and sophomore) portion of a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree. This Associate of Science degree includes Guaranteed Transfer Courses and the lower-division agriculture core courses recommended by the Colorado Department of Higher Education to provide students with basic and applied knowledge in natural and physical sciences, economics, soil science, and horticulture.
